Riparian - Observations within an
Old Growth Forest Riparian Area
We invite you to watch this 30 minute video which examines the ecosystem held by an old growth forest located in an Inland Temperate Rainforest in British Columbia. This riparian area is now feeling the presence of clearcut logging as a road is built along its edge.

Don Elzer shares his thoughts and observations within this footage that we call “Riparian”

Future Primitive
Resilience and Adaptation in the Wake of Disruptions

The world is changing—sometimes gradually, sometimes all at once. The Future Primitive program is designed to help you meet that uncertainty with clarity, capability, and calm.

This immersive experience prepares participants to navigate disruption across three critical phases:
  • Immediate events (power outages, supply interruptions, emergencies)
  • Transition periods (weeks to months of instability)
  • Emerging “new realities” (long-term adaptation and rebuilding)

Beyond immediate survival, the program asks deeper and more important questions:
  • Could you source and grow food over time?
  • Do you understand basic food processing, storage, and seasonal cycles?
  • Could you endure and adapt through a winter?
  • What role does community play in long-term resilience?
  • If needed, how would you begin to rebuild the essentials of daily life?

Future Primitive moves beyond survivalism and into adaptive living—where resilience is not just about getting through disruption, but about shaping what comes next.

Participants leave with a clearer understanding of their own preparedness, a practical framework for action, and a renewed sense of confidence in their ability to adapt.

A Few More Thoughts to Ponder

In a world that doesn’t always behave as expected, the goal is not to predict the future—it’s to be ready for it.

Future Primitive is about becoming someone who can adapt, respond, and help shape what comes next.

2026 Dates

Through a blend of bushcraft skills, scenario-based learning, and strategic thinking, participants are guided to explore what happens when modern systems fail—and how to respond in ways that are grounded, practical, and sustainable.

You will be challenged to consider real-world scenarios:
  • What happens when power and communication grids go down?
  • How do you adapt when fuel is unavailable?
  • What if food systems are disrupted for weeks—or months?
  • If leaving the city becomes necessary, where do you go—and how do you live?

Participants engage in hands-on bushcraft practices including shelter building, firecraft, water sourcing, and tool use—skills that provide immediate, practical anchors during uncertain times. These are not framed as extreme survival tactics, but as calming, confidence-building practices that restore a sense of agency and control.
