Riparian - Observations within an
Old Growth Forest Riparian Area
We invite you to watch this 30 minute video which examines the ecosystem held by an old growth forest located in an Inland Temperate Rainforest in British Columbia. This riparian area is now feeling the presence of clearcut logging as a road is built along its edge.
Don Elzer shares his thoughts and observations within this footage that we call “Riparian”
Wildcraft Forest School - Bushcraft Series

Firecraft becomes a central practice. You will learn how to gather materials, prepare a fire lay, and tend flame with intention. Fire demands presence. It responds to care and attention. Sitting with a fire—watching, feeding, maintaining—becomes a form of meditation that quiets the mind and anchors awareness.
Tool use further deepens this experience. Working with simple tools engages the hands, focuses attention, and reconnects you to tangible creation. Participants craft items such as string snares, walking sticks, and even simple musical instruments—objects that are both functional and expressive. These acts of making restore a sense of agency and creativity often lost in modern routines.
Throughout the program, you will engage in sensory awareness practices, barefoot walking (where appropriate), and quiet observation. These exercises are deceptively simple, yet profoundly effective in reducing stress and sharpening perception.
Bushcraft, in this context, is not about survival—it is about wellness.
It becomes a way to regulate the nervous system, reduce mental overload, and rediscover clarity. Participants often leave feeling calmer, more focused, and more connected—to themselves, to others, and to the living world around them.

A Few More Thoughts to Ponder
You don’t need to escape the modern world—you just need to remember how to stand outside of it.
The Rewilding Reset is an opportunity to reconnect with what has always been there: your senses, your instincts, and your place within the natural world.

Through shelter building, firekeeping, tool use, and sensory awareness, participants begin to rediscover something deeply human: the ability to feel at home in the natural world.
You will learn to construct simple debris and tarp shelters—not because you need to sleep in them, but because the act of building awakens a fundamental “nesting instinct.” As you shape a structure from the landscape, something shifts internally. The body relaxes. The mind settles. A sense of safety and belonging begins to return.
The program also introduces the construction principles of Neolithic structures—the kinds of shelters and living systems that supported human communities for thousands of years. These are not presented as historical artifacts, but as living knowledge—evidence of how humans once lived in alignment with environment, rhythm, and need.
Rewilding Reset
Nervous System Renewal Through Primitive Living
There is a growing recognition that modern life—while convenient and connected—comes at a cost. Constant stimulation, digital saturation, and the pace of daily demands can leave people feeling overwhelmed, distracted, and disconnected from themselves and the world around them.
The Rewilding Reset offers a different rhythm.
This immersive experience invites you to step away from noise and urgency and into a slower, more instinctive way of being—one shaped by the timeless practices of bushcraft and human connection to the land.
